Another ECRF ride day in the books. The Vet / Arroyo / REM track at Glen Helen Raceway was pretty much cleared out this particular Summer afternoon; great for spinning laps, but also quite warm! Mode 3 (max power) test yielded expected results, she got hot and had to be reset, even though plenty of voltage was left 'in the tank'. For this video, was still on the stock Mikuni, yes. Currently on a Keihin 38 PWK AS (with TPS utilized) which is a little less temperamental. Mikuni is good when you keep up on air screw adjustments, and makes as good or better mid-top, but the Keihin has a smoother/cleaner/easier to tune low-end transition. Was running 410/420M, 50P, stock needle but a little leaner at position 2, and 1.5 - 2.25 on the AS depending on temps. Leaner main for hot SoCal summer conditions, 420 once temps cooled off. 50/50 blend of Sunoco 110L/91 pump helps keep any pinging under control, whether running Mikuni or Keihin. Good question, hope this answers it!

    Congrats on the test day. It was crazy watching everyone that was there, that reviewed the 2025 CFR250R. They all said the same thing about the bike. No real personal opinions. I watched at least 5 different reviews and they were all the exact same content, scripted even!! What do you think? Any real difference in the feel of the bike over 2024? Do you like it better than the KX's yet? I chatted with you about the differences between the KX250F and the CRF250R. For me, after it was all said and done, I did end up going with a 2022 KX250X. I still love my 2003 CR250R as my number 1, but for the trails, ease of operation, and overall, the KX250X is growing on me.

    • @CasMoto
      @CasMoto 15 днів тому

      1. Congrats on going with the KX250X: Your 22' is a beauty and likely as good or better than anything else that's out there! I still dig my 2020 KX450... 2. 'Any real difference in the feel of the bike over 2024?' - Oh yeah, even on a smooth day where everything comes easy, the balance, stock settings, and even pick-up are better than the 22-24 CRF250's. I'm not sold on the air filter design and consumer ease of use just yet (even if the new airbox location makes the performance better), but more time and testing will tell. Also to note, everyone is given the same PR packet, rides the same track, and had many of the same complaints with the previous generation. Good testers feel a lot of the same sensations, which explains similar feedback. Remember, these are first-impression videos where there's usually less than two hours or so of ride time...Longer term tests are a better indicator than these quick-reaction introductions. 3. 'Do you like it better than the KX's yet?' - No siree Bob. First-year models take time to learn, and the lack of aftermarket supplies is always a hindrance in the beginning. More testing will tell, and it's certainly a positive improvement and the right direction, but I'm not quite there (yet). Reliability, OE parts pricing, looks, and the Honda reputation are strong points for the CRF250R, but we all need more time than just one ride to come to many of these conclusions. The 25' CRF250R was better than I expected it to be, stupid fun to rip around Fox Raceway, but she'll likely come up short in the HP department against other 250F competitors. Not a bad thing, just something to note (And that's even with a 100/90-19 rear tire!). Cheers and Thank You for watching

      Yes, quite an improvement. Motor may only be slightly better, but the overall package/handling/and comfort are leaps ahead. Would you recommend this bike or a 24 kx 250?

    • @CasMoto
      @CasMoto 2 місяці тому

      Both great bikes, just depends on what you're looking for. Kawasaki KX250 is nearing (or at) the end of its' current generation, whereas Yamaha will have a similar YZ250F platform for a number of years...Price-wise, probably better deals on 23/24' KX250's, but resale will be more difficult, even more so if a new 2025+ betters the current design. Yamaha usually has less deals on buying new, but you'll be on the latest and greatest for a number of years. Both have KYB suspension, the KX works slightly better for heavier riders (190 lb. +), but is too stiff for most under 175 lb. At 6' tall, I prefer the KX250 ergos though Yamaha has massively improved in this area on the new bikes (250F/450F). Yamaha has an electronics edge with the Power Tuner app, if that's something you're interested in, but the high-revving and powerful KX250 engine runs extremely clean too and has Kawasaki's tried-and-true coupler system. Can't go wrong either way and new bike time is always the best! Good luck with your decision, sit on each to feel what's comfortable (or better yet: beg, borrow, steal a ride on both if accessible), pencil out the pros and cons, then Enjoy. Cheers

      3rd gear most 250F's, possibly 4th on a CRF250R if geared +1/+2 rear sprocket from stock. Best advice I can share: Watch a few riders who hit it clean, and even ask one for a tow over it. Best way to gauge speed. Have fun!

    • @CasMoto
      @CasMoto 3 місяці тому

      Great question and thank you for the kind words. This was my last ride day before some bike prep/updates, so I had stock 13/50 gearing and 114L chain this particular day. That places the axle middle/forward even with a 20+ hour stretched chain. Have since gone to a 13/51 ratio with a proper gold 116L chain, which moves the axle back quite a bit (13/50 with 116L would almost be as far rearward as you can go) - Much improved in my opinion! Especially with stock exhaust and when running 91 pump fuel. Changing either exhaust, fuel, or ECU will perk it up, but I don't believe 450 riders should have to resort to such measures...

    • @CasMoto

      @@MX-nv7zb Kawi/Yamaha pros and cons: Kawi is easier to ride, front brake is better, smoother/more linear power character, more forgiving for the average rider. 24' KX450 lacks punch (in stock trim), first-year production models always mean waiting on parts/unknown durability/reliability, good handling but quicker front end than before, and it's physically heavier (and feels it for those coming off the lighter/perkier 2019-2023's). YZ450F engine is way more aggressive/race ready in stock trim, mapping and power tuner app are superior to Kawasaki's, hour meter and lap timer programmed in, great KYB suspension means many can get away with just springs before a revalve, and the overall quality is usually a tick better. Cons are that it's simply ALOT of bike. I've had more sketchy moments on the 23/24' YZ450F's once I'm tired/fatigued over any other bike (except those with air forks...). Engineering and working on them also takes some getting used to. Setup is also a little more critical to find perfect balance and can lack ease of use from track to track. Haven't ridden the new 24.5'+ Austrian platforms, as I haven't been formally invited to test anything from the brands since 2023 model year. Brought too much attention to the air fork maintenance requirements and stiffer frame compared to the preceding models (2019-2022), and apparently someone in the company did not appreciate that. Shame, because the all-new (more forgiving) frame and awesome features like LitPro compatibility and tuning capabilities are truly exciting. Hopefully this changes at some point, but for now I have very little insight into these always competitive machines. Great questions, thanks for watching, and enjoy that new dialed in suspension! AHM does good work and that customization always makes a new bike feel even better. Cheers

      Not a personal bike, just a single day test session. Good bike with great brakes and suspension package. Not really a fan of the stock Maxxis ST tires which may be why there was a bit of hesitancy in the turns - Good eye. Beta's have solid build quality and stock components, but this bike will take a special buyer for its first-year introduction. With time, I believe it will be an extremely viable Vet class weapon and you'll start seeing more and more of them trackside; there are already quite a few in the wild on the trails (for a reason!)...

    I know this is a year old but, if you recall, which bike did you like better all around between the 2023 KX 250f and the 2023 CRF 250? From track to trail riding more Vet style?

    • @CasMoto
      @CasMoto 3 місяці тому

      Both great bikes, just very different; Should make deciding between the two an easy decision. At 6' and 185 lb. I greatly prefer the KX250. It's extremely similar to my personal KX450 ergonomically and the suspension favors heavier/faster riders. The chassis is a little more long and stable, but also softer and less suspension critical as well. The engine screams through the mid and top-end, so it's fun to ride aggressively. My only complaint is that you basically have to run TwinAir air filters, as the filter cage and airbox setup is a tight squeeze. The Honda CRF250R fits shorter (under 5'10") and smaller riders much better. The engine has way more bottom, where a normal track that could be 1, 2, 3 or the Kawasaki KX250 is easily 2, 3, 4 on the Honda. Build quality and resale are better than Kawi and air filter changes are simple as well. Ditch the 100/90-19 stock rear tire for a 110/90-19 and it gets even better. Honda is quicker handling, easier to turn, but this can be a blessing or a curse depending on riding style. Both bikes may be seeing a redesign (2025ish) soon, so use that to your advantage if buying new! Also, I mostly ride SoCal moto so take my opinion for what it's worth. For trail, the Honda CRF250RX is a slightly better trail bike option as it has big tank, 18" rear wheel, and kickstand ready to rock. The KX250X lacks the oversize tank but also has 18" and kickstand ready to go. Good question and Thanks for watching

      @@CasMoto Thank you for taking the time. I appreciate it. As I am 49yrs old, 5'9 165 lbs. I mainly ride ACP in Arizona but love Fox Racway in Ca. I currently ride my 2003 CR250, which I love, for the track, and I will never get rid of, but a lot of the "Dudes" I am friends with like to ride the trails and single track, and going up north to Flagstaff @ 7000+ feet elevation is not ideal with the CR250. I want a fuel injected, electric start, 4 stroke for that. I am a Honda rider at hart, but there is just something about the KX250F that has my attention. Lol... part of that is your fault, I dig the footage, you showcase each bike you ride, on kick ass Southern California tracks, no talking, no music, no bull shit. Really helps for planning trips to tracks I want to ride, and for choosing my next bike. What it comes down to is I need to ride both bikes on a track, once I figure that out, I think it will be easier to make a decision. Thanks again for your input, and the quality footage!

    Tips for arm pump? I see that you are pretty fast your lap time is around 1 minutes 30 sec 🎉

    • @CasMoto
      @CasMoto 3 місяці тому

      1. A'ME Grips. Glue on versions. Either full or half waffle, both work excellent. 2. Find, and more importantly plan, a spot on the track where you can take a deep breath. Every lap. I usually relax/breathe over specific jumps/sections to keep it consistent. 3. Off the bike training. Concept2 rower or MTBing helps ALOT. Running/Jogging, road cycling, interval training also good ideas. Don't forget to enjoy every ride, and keep calm. Elevated heart rate is guaranteed, but how you deal with it can determine how fast you pump up. Also, grip like you're holding a tennis racquet or opening or a door knob, not straight-handed white knuckle style! Hopefully these tips help and Thanks for watching

    @CasMoto How are the ergo's compared to a '23+ YZ450? Does it feel less "tall"?

    • @CasMoto
      @CasMoto 3 місяці тому

      Great question. Short answer, the ergos are really really good. It does feel slightly less tall, but more long than the YZ450F. The seat has a more traditional shape and breaks in quickly, unlike the Yamaha which has a thin seat foam and unique profile. Overall, the Kawi is more a known feel, old-school in a sense, where the Yamaha can feel almost too new and futuristic.

    • @CasMoto
      @CasMoto 3 місяці тому

      Compared to the Kawi, the Beta is another notch of smooth on the engine side. Most rideable 450cc MXer available at the moment. Suspension is a little firmer than the Kawasaki, but VERY good components allow for proper softening/adjustability. The RX is also even better for taller riders than the Kawasaki; Think 6'+ feeling right at home. The Beta seat still needs some attention, like most bikes from the Italian brand, but all the little peculiarities can be addressed with some aftermarket help. It's a good bike, and can be made even cooler once you check out the Build Your Own Beta program (betabyob.com/)...
